THE_PROCESS

This project began by conducting large amounts of research into early comics from 1930’s-60’s. I visited many different sites, some archived and now defunct to gather as much information as I could and organized them by time periods.

The next step I sifted through that research even more, creating a loose visual to communicate the different eras and connecting certain common threads like major publishers.

Next I streamlined my information, deleting anything unnecessary so I was left with just what I wanted to keep in the final product.

I then created a style guide defining typography, grid layout, colors and general layout style.

I also sketched out a loose idea of how I wanted the final infographic to look which ended up pretty close to my final design.

Before diving in I would also make a small part following the guidelines I established in my style guide to confirm the tone and layout was what I wanted.

FINAL_RESULT

I am extremely proud of the final result. I decided to lay out my information as an open comic book page with the style of the panels, text, typography and imagery evolving and changing with each era. I also applied several different photoshop effects and filters to try and make the comic book look as real as possible, even photographing some of my own comics to create the pages and staples. I had a lot of fun researching during thie project and planning out the final infographic and so when the time came to start I felt very confident with my chosen elements, information and style.
